Hi! A warm welcome to the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India.

This department was established in 1986 to focus on therapeutic drug monitoring, bioequivalence studies and Phase III Clinical Trials. Now it has expanded into a versatile and comprehensive Clinical Research Unit with the capabilities to conduct studies in all clinical development phases of pharmaceutical products. Unit is located in a large tertiary care university teaching hospital with all latest state of art medical and surgical facilities. Clinical Research Unit has targeted the translation of research findings into better health practice and the development of health advice based on critical evaluation of the evidence. Evidence based medicine in now recognized as paramount in developing health policy and guidelines for clinical practice and the evidence obtained from randomized controlled trials provides the highest level of evidence of the effectiveness of new and existing treatments.

 
The Department of CPT plays a vital role in translating the results of basic research into better clinical practice through the proper evaluation of new therapies in controlled trials.

The Pharmaceutical industry plays a very important role in large scale randomized clinical trials by providing resources not always readily available from other sources. CPT is well placed to assist both industry and the community in identifying new and effective interventions for further improving health. Unit is also committed to finding cost effective solutions to health problems common to the country. Recently unit has been granted additional space in the hospital, which will be specially designed for our clinical research activities.
